Describe the problem before choosing a procedure
Back pain, neck pain, tingling, and weakness do not all have the same cause. Explain where the symptoms travel, what provokes them, and whether there was an injury. Your history and examination help determine whether conservative care, physical therapy, imaging, or a specialist assessment is appropriate.
Benefits and risks
Spinal manipulation is one approach used for selected musculoskeletal problems. It is not appropriate for every cause of pain, and benefits vary. Ask about alternatives and risks, especially before neck manipulation. Discuss osteoporosis, blood-thinning medication, recent trauma, and neurological symptoms with the clinician.
Symptoms that should not wait
New loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, progressive weakness, or major trauma needs urgent assessment rather than a routine manipulation appointment. For severe or emergency symptoms, seek immediate medical care.
