Make an informed choice

Choosing a medical weight-loss clinic: what to compare.

Compare clinician credentials, realistic goals, follow-up and total costs before choosing a medical weight-loss clinic in the Atlanta area.

Look beyond the advertised treatment or starting price

Choose a medical weight-loss clinic by comparing who will assess you, how treatment decisions are made, what support is available and what care will cost over time. A familiar medicine or an attractive introductory price does not answer those questions. Look for clear explanations that help you decide whether the service fits your health, preferences and practical needs. A consultation should help you understand your choices without promising a prescription or a certain amount of weight loss.

Know who you will actually see

Ask for the name and professional role of the person providing your care, not just the name of a medical director on the website. Georgia's Composite Medical Board provides a public license lookup with status and public orders. Check that you are comparing the correct person. Licensure is a starting point; it does not by itself establish a particular specialty credential, prove a treatment suits you or tell you how the office handles follow-up questions.

Compare the decision process, not a promised outcome

NIDDK recommends looking for realistic goals and a plan that supports lasting habits. Ask how the clinic would consider your previous approaches, health history and treatment preferences. If a medicine is discussed, ask why that particular option is being considered and what alternatives exist. Be cautious about guaranteed rapid losses, claims of effortless results or promises to remove fat from one chosen area. A testimonial cannot establish what you personally should expect.

Make ongoing support specific

Ask what happens after the first visit. Find out who reviews progress, how questions are handled and what you should do if the plan is difficult to maintain. Support for eating patterns, appropriate activity and maintaining progress should be part of the comparison. Ask whether those services are provided by the clinic, require another professional or involve a separate program. A service described as available somewhere is not necessarily included in your own care.

  • Who would I contact with a concern, and how are urgent questions handled?
  • When would we review the plan, and what would make us reconsider it?
  • What support could continue if my preferences, budget or circumstances change?

Compare the full cost in the same categories

Request separate information about the initial evaluation, follow-up appointments, medicines, testing and any other products or services. Ask what is optional, what may be recommended later and what is excluded from an advertised price. If insurance might be involved, ask what the office can explain and what you need to verify with your insurer. Comparing the same categories makes two starting prices more meaningful without assuming either represents an all-inclusive program.

Keep a short comparison note

For each clinic, write down the named treating professional, visit location and format, initial fee, separately charged care and answers to your most important questions. Mark unanswered items rather than filling them in from assumptions. Consider whether the explanations were understandable and whether there was room to discuss alternatives. You do not need to choose a medicine before choosing where to have an evaluation.

The confirmed starting point at Atlanta Medical Institute

AMI's initial consultation is in person at 5009 Roswell Road NE, Suite 201, Sandy Springs, GA 30342. The one-time $99 fee is paid when you book. Follow-up visits, medicines, lab work and testing, and procedures are billed separately. Call 404-264-9553 to ask about an appointment and clarify the next steps that matter to you. The initial visit does not guarantee a prescription, a procedure or a particular outcome.

Your questions, answered.

Should I choose the clinic with the lowest first-visit price?+

Compare the service, treating professional and expected ongoing costs as well. An initial fee alone does not show what later care will involve.

Does medical supervision mean a physician conducts every visit?+

Do not assume that from a general description. Ask who would assess you, their professional role and how other clinicians are involved in your care.

Do I need to request a particular medication before booking?+

No. You can bring questions and preferences to an assessment without committing to a particular treatment.

Keep exploring.
